Hilton Mystic: Mystic, Connecticut

Property
A great location tops this property’s list of attributes, as it sits directly across from the Mystic Aquarium. A thorough renovation introduced such niceties as feather down pillows and comforters, Lavazza products for the in-room coffee maker, and modern brushed nickel decorative accessories and fixtures, including a full-length mirror. Not only is there wifi, but the PrintSpots.com mobile printing service lets you send documents to the hotel’s printer from your laptop/PDA/iPhone.

Location
Mystic is a year-round, family friendly destination. This isn’t a whirlwind theme park “vacay” that overstimulates your kids and deflates your wallet. This is a more wholesome, old-fashioned road trip. Attractions like the Mystic Aquarium and the Mystic Seaport enrich, educate, and entertain toddlers through teens. Take a boat cruise, hit the beach, pick apples, then catch a drive-in movie. When hunger strikes, you can grab a “Mystic Pizza” and hit the “Ice Cream Trail” of 35 nearby ice cream parlors.

Sleeps
Extremely spacious rooms can be configured with two double beds or one king, with room to spare for a roll-away single bed and a portable crib.

Highlights
You may not even have time to enjoy the best amenity — the indoor heated pool. The same holds true for the hotel’s two restaurants, with highly rated cuisine, but too much competition from local eateries.

Good to know
While this property offers comfortable, large rooms, you may need to make your own adjustments to get things “just right” for younger kids. Mini-fridges are not standard, but can be requested for an additional daily charge. All the bedding is stark white, so take heed before letting Junior eat his “PB with extra J” on top of the comforter.
