Howard Johnson Plaza Anaheim: Anaheim, California

Property
Looks like a 60s throwback but this HoJo’s is not the kind I remember as a kid. The Anaheim property was modern, clean and up-to-date. Most rooms have double or queen-sized beds, microwaves, mini-fridges and balconies. Kids’ suites are apparently being added soon.
Location
Walking distance to Disneyland’s main gate. The front desk said it was a seven-minute walk but it took us less than that. We parked at the hotel before check-in and after check-out with no additional charge. There were restaurants of all kinds located between the hotel and Disneyland.
Sleeps
Fairly spacious rooms, many with new pillowtop beds – comfy! Enough room to park a double stroller.
Highlights
The newly installed, pirate-themed water play area was as much fun as a theme park. It included water slides, splash zones, a giant bucket dump and a kid’s pool with a beach-slope entrance. It’s open late for kids of all ages. A more relaxing swim can be had at another full-sized pool on the hotel grounds.
Good to know
Free internet connection, seven acres of nicely landscaped grounds. Many rooms face Disneyland so you can wake up with a view of the Matterhorn. Try to secure a room that does not face the Interstate. Unfortunately, there’s no breakfast included.
