Landal Rabbit Hill: Gelderland, The Netherlands

Property
Rabbit Hill is the perfect vacation park in the Netherlands for families with kids 10 and under. It’s got it all: indoor pool, huge indoor and outdoor playgrounds, several daily supervised kids activities (crafts, nature walks, dancing, sports), separate bedrooms for the kids, a restaurant with decent wine, snack bar with chicken nuggets and a supermarket. There’s even a mini bowling alley, outdoor tennis court and a sport field. We enjoyed the adjacent nature area with bike and hiking trails and were lucky enough to spot a red deer.
Location
Located just 8 km outside of Apeldoorn, it’s a nice oasis close to nature but also near lots of attractions if you can drag the kids away from the playground and waterslide. Some of the nearby attractions include Het Loo Palace (that name always makes us giggle), Dolphinarium, Apenpark (monkey park), Walabi World (amusement park), Burgers Zoo and a few museums. I have to admit that we never left Rabbit Hill in our 4-day stay.
Sleeps
2, 4, 6 or 8 (all single beds, 2 per bedroom) in nice brick bungalows or teeny tiny but good value caravans (mobile homes). Bungalows and caravans have kitchens and a living room and an outdoor sitting area. Camping for RVs and tents also available.
Highlights
This is a good place to take a break as parents because there’s so much for the kids to do. I read a whole novel while sitting in the sun and took walks in the woods every day- my two favorite activities. Our kids loved the kinder disco and craft time and we enjoyed the hour to take a walk together without kids. The kids spent so much time playing outside with friends they made from Holland, Germany and France that they slept better and longer than they had in months- yay!
Good to know
Like many Dutch vacation parks, there is no daily housekeeping and you’re expected to do some basic cleaning up before you leave (take out garbage, remove sheets from beds, sweep the floor). You have to pay extra in some of the lower cost units for bedding; it’s included with other units so be sure to check. You’ll also need to pay for your towels if you don’t plan to bring your own. Often, only one roll of toilet paper is provided. Luckily, everything you need is available at the on-site supermarket at reasonable prices.
