Mas de Cotton: Cavillargues, France

Property
An enormous converted farmhouse on the edge of the village of Cavillargues, set amongst vineyards on the border of Provence. The 4,300 square foot (!) Mas de Cotton is perfect for family reunions or multi-family trips. With 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, a large shaded courtyard, a securely fenced swimming pool, and a garden with a small swingset, it’s perfectly set up for families with young children.
Location
In Provence, about 20 miles from Avignon. The nearest towns are Bagnols and Uzès (a charming town with a good choice of restaurants and a Saturday market). The village of Cavillargues is walking distance from the house, and has a boulangerie, pharmacy, and cafe. The Pont-du-Gard is nearby, and the lovely beaches of the Camargue are an easy 40 mile drive.
Sleeps
Up to 12. Crib and high chair available.
Highlights
Strolling through the back gate to an all-you-can-eat cherry orchard. Exploring the antique markets at L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (a charming island city criss-crossed by canals) if your kids will let you.
Good to know
The pool is not heated, so it’s only warm enough to swim in July and August. We bought an inflatable raft in seaside Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer so the kids could enjoy the pool in May without, you know, risking hypothermia. Unheated pools are pretty much the standard in Europe.
