Location
The property is located on quiet, residential street in the beach town of Lahaina, within short walking distance of most downtown restaurants and attractions. To stock up on groceries, drive to the nearby Safeway. From here it is less than 20 minutes drive to many family attractions like Kaanapali beach, Black Rock, the Sugar Cane train, and Maui Ocean Center.

Highlights
You can keep your own private stash of chocolate-macadamia ice cream and pineapple wine in the full size refrigerator; paradise is what you make of it. There is a washer/dryer (laundry soap included) inside the condo, which makes it easy to keep those bathing suits and beach towels clean after a day at the beach. Pack light!

Good to know
The bathrooms don’t have bathtubs, and may make bathing baby difficult. Some of the condos are privately owned, so you may be able to get a better deal renting directly through the owner (just know you will forego the daily maid service).

Can’t decide between the service of a hotel and the space of a condo? Try the Fairmont Kea Lani on Maui. The 840-square foot one-bedroom suites are big enough to spread out in, and feature lanais and kitchenettes with microwaves, coffeemakers, and compact fridges. Suites are air-conditioned, with 2 televisions and DVD players (if it’s in the budget, nothing tops off a family day on the beach better than a bath in an oversized tub, a movie, and room service). The resort has three pools, four restaurants, a spa and fitness center, and kids club for children 5-18. If you like big luxury hotels with a little flexibility, you’re going to love this place.

Location
The Kea Lani occupies 22 acres of tropical landscape and white sand beaches on the sunny southwest coast of Maui in the town of Wailea.

Highlights
Free self-service laundry. Kids too small to snorkel? Take them to the spectacular Maui Ocean Center aquarium in nearby Wailuku for that fish-in-your-face feeling.

Good to know
All the little extras add up. If you don’t mind lifting the occasional finger, hit the grocery store for drinks, snacks, and basic breakfast foods. Buy your own umbrellas and boogie boards while you’re at it. Of course you can get everything you need at the resort, but you may just get a five-digit bill to go with it on checkout.
