New Family Friendly Hotels in Granada:
El Amparo: Alhama de Granada, Spain
Property
A super-friendly bed-and-breakfast (casa rural) just outside of Granada, this was our favorite hotel on a recent 2-week trip through Andalusia. British expat owners Jeff and Sally Webb do everything right, and made us feel welcome—kids and all. This is a very quiet and peaceful place where you will fall asleep to the sound of distant sheep, which is strangely soothing. It makes a nice stop on a tour through Andalusia.
Location
Five minutes from the white-walled town of Alhama de Granada in rural Andalusia, surrounded by olive and almond groves and some of the prettiest views I’ve ever seen. Twenty-five easy minutes from Granada.
Sleeps
2-5 in the thoughtfully designed family suite (2 gorgeous bedrooms and a spacious bathroom connected by a hallway with closing doors). All rooms have thick walls, ceiling fans, and are north-facing, so they stay very cool without a/c. Our room was tastefully decorated, and even had a fully stocked bookshelf for kids and adults. Cribs available by prior arrangement.
Highlights
We literally had to tear ourselves away from this lovely hotel to go sightseeing. We especially loved the pool, the cuddly resident West Highland Terrier Jack, the games collection, the porch swing, and walking through the adjacent countryside. Our hosts kindly rearranged the weekly dinner plan in order to serve something child-friendly the nights we were there. From detailed advice about visiting the Alhambra to driving directions to El Torcal, nothing was too much trouble.
Good to know
There are no fridges in the rooms, but Jeff and Sally will not let you starve! Housekeeping leaves large water bottles and apples in your room daily. Breakfast is hearty, and light lunches are available by pre-order. Dinner is included in the price. There is a well-stocked honor bar with drinks and snacks, and fresh-squeezed orange juice and ice cream are available all day.
