New Family Friendly Hotels in Athens:

Hotel Cecil: Athens, Greece

Property
We enjoyed this small family hotel squeezed between shops in downtown Athens. It’s within walking distance to the market and Acropolis with friendly staff, a good free breakfast, and family rooms that offer a bit of privacy for the parents.

Location
Downtown Athens with a rooftop view of the Acropolis. It’s a handy 3-block walk from the Monastiraki metro station (45 min metro from the airport) and two blocks to the very cool open air food market. We walked through the larger flea market and up to the Acropolis. With a travel stroller for our 3-year-old and a few rest and snack breaks for our 5-year-old, it was a long but fun day.

Sleeps
4 in the “family room”: one room with a double bed and bathroom; adjoining room with 2 twin beds.

Highlights
Rooftop patio with amazing views of the city & the Acropolis lit at night. Great included breakfast of Greek yogurt with honey (our kids are still asking for this treat 3 months later), cake, eggs, cereal, etc. The tiny historic “cage” style elevator and spiral staircase were a hit with the kids!

Good to know
Family rooms have no view, but are amazingly quiet in this busy city. The food market is a great spot for reasonably priced snacks: we stocked up on dried apricots & mango, roasted nuts and juice boxes before exploring the city. Hotel restaurant is not open in low season, but free breakfast is offered year round.
