New Family Friendly Hotels in Central Valley and Highlands:
Hotel Buena Vista: Alajuela, Costa Rica

Property
Comfortable rooms with 2 queen beds and balconies with great views of the coffee-growing valley and volcanoes in the distance. There is a swimming pool, small bar, gift shop and restaurant on site and a tasty breakfast is included. The hotel is on a mountain top so although it is only 15 minutes from the airport, it is nice and quiet above the hustle and bustle of the city.
Location
At just 9 km from the San Jose airport, this lodge is ideal for a first and last night stop. It’s only 15 minutes from Poas Volcano and also a short drive to Zoo Ave, a fun zoo that specializes in tropical birds and primates.
Sleeps
2-4 in the rooms. 2-5 in the junior suites (you must note when you make the reservation that you’d like a twin bed set up in the suite for the 5th person)
Highlights
Rooms have cable TV which is a rarity in Costa Rica. The lodge is a nice base for day trips. Plan your own or sign up for one of the lodge’s guided one-day tours. Some of the options include a coffee tour, visit to San Jose’s central market, Zoo Ave, Poas volcano, La Paz waterfall, etc.
Good to know
If your flight out is early in the morning (before breakfast is served in the restaurant), ask the night before for a box breakfast. You can eat it in the shuttle on the way to the airport or while you stand in the airport security line.
