Tag! Wanna win it?
Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.” After living with a toddler, I’m beginning to wonder if he wasn’t being literal and actually talking about your average three-year-old.
Take mine, for instance. He’s at the stage where he wants you to read him the same few books over and over again. And then a few more times after that. And maybe once or twice more just to get the real gist of the text. Though I enjoy reading to my child, there comes a point in time (usually about the 4,245th time through a single book) that I start to think I will lose my mind if Chet requests that same book again. Is a little variety too much to ask?
And when we’re traveling? I’m doing double duty. If the Captain has yet to turn off the Fasten Seatbelts sign, I’m looking at reading “CARS: Tales from the Track” at least 10 times before I start to suggest that our time might be better spent banging something against the tray table. It ain’t pretty.
But then I found Leapfrog’s Tag! Amazing Touch Reading System.
The Pros
The Tag! is a pen-like gizmo, about the size of an eyeglasses case, that actually reads the corresponding Amazing Touch books. But it’s more than that — within each special book there are also games and activities at multiple levels and special “hidden” sounds that your child can discover. But the best part is that your child controls the action. Does he want to read the book all the way through? Cool! Does he want to repeat the same funny page? That works, too. Currently, Chet likes to use the Tag! to make the tractors fart with his “CARS: Tractor Tipping” book. Especially since everyone on the plane looks over at me as if I’m responsible for the sound.
The Cons
The biggest con is that the Tag! only works with its own books. So until they work out a deal with Dr. Seuss’ estate, I’m still stuck on “Green Eggs and Ham” duty. And I should also mention that the Tag’s tip is metal, so if your toddler likes to enthusiastically work it against the book’s pages, it can result in tears. But with a little supervision, that is easily avoided.
The Bottom Line
Sure, you may spend your flight listening to fart noises or dinosaur roars but you can save your voice and maybe even spend a few minutes reading your own book selection. What could be better?
* * *
And to share in the fun, we’re giving away one Tag! Amazing Touch Reading System. To enter, simply leave a comment with a line from that one book your child loves that is getting. on. your. last. damn. nerve by midnight Friday, December 5th. A winner will be chosen at random. U.S. only, please.

The book that I’m getting tired of is I Love Trucks. I have the whole thing memorized and read it with my eyes closed now.
“Trucks, trucks, trucks. I love trucks.”
and the classic, “I like trucks that blink and scream, I like trucks that roar, but the truck that I like best brings ice cream to my door.”
This would be awesome!!
“Its green eggs and ham I say!”
Once upon a time…
I’m really tired of princess books. Any other would be wonderful :) But Gracie’s all about Princess’s.
I do not like green eggs and ham!
My voice can only handle 4 books a day…I really need the help!
Any books that are too wordy to read out loud. It is enough to put me to sleep! :)
Anything train! Up and at em engineer, rise and shine, mornings here.
I just went to the library yesterday with my 2 1/2 year old daughter, Savannah. We went looking for dinosaur books. We found 3. She loves dinosaurs. Well while I was reading to her from the pages about how dinosaur fossils are discovered. She said, “Mommy poop!” I said “What, poop?” She said “yeah, dinosaur poop.” I laughed and said, “Honey, there is no poop in the book.” She said, “Mommy, right there.”… and pointed to the page, and low and behold there was a picture of real dinosaur poop fossils!!!! So now, I have read the book to her, Over and over about 6 or 7 times now… and she skips through the pages to the dinosaur poop…. so she can say “Mommy, dinosaur poop!”.. LMAO!
My 2 year old is on a Brown Bear kick- “Brown bear, brown bear what do you see?” The worst part is we’ve read it so many times that she knows it by heart so I can’t fudge and skip a page or two :) The good thing it’s so repetative that my four year old can “read” it to her too.
I don’t like green eggs and ham.
I am so over “the Little Engine that could” it started out as a lesson for my son in building confidence and character, but OH! The monotony….every 20 miutes or so, I wish I had the heart to hide the book for 5 minutes!
Go Dogs Go! Just go already!
One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish

“Wacky Wednesday was gone when I counted them all, and I even got rid of that shoe on the wall.”
“Fro-o-o-g-g-g-y!” “Wha-a-a-t?” I really need a break from those Froggy books!

Count me in to win. Thank you ;)
“Wait” said the muskrat, “I want to tell you a story…”
My kids love this book… “Wait! I want to tell you a story” by Tom Willans. It is one of the first ones they had memorized well before they could actually read. Those versions were the best… but they always did the muskrat voice in a high squeaky one!
I do not eat green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.
I’d have to say that “The Cow Says Moo” from The Farm Animal Book is driving me cuckoo. I hear it in my sleep.
That sounds really fun … And a great toy for learning .. for me it was books with LPs (remember that music once came on black vinyl ??? :) ) .. Started reading myself about that age .. think he might be too soon.
Oh the wonderful sounds Mr. Brown can do….
The book I am the most tired of would be “Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?” I’ve been reading it for four years now and could really do without it!
I just don’t think I can read “Goodnight Moon” one more time!
“I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam I Am.”
…and I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll Blow your house down.
Thanks for this giveaway.
“My name is Skippito Friskito” from the Skippyjon Jones books. Great books, but they’re kind of tongue twisters.
Quack, quack, quack, quack from my granddaughter’s baby animal book. It was cute at first, but she says it all the time. If I give her a cookie she quacks, if I scold her she quacks-and so on!
smchester at gmail dot com
Our daughter repeats lines from the PBS Kids cartoons. “I’m a little scared” is annoying to no end.
My 5 year old asks me 1,000,000 times a day “Mom, what’s THIS say?” I tell her it says “Erica needs to hurry up and learn to read.” She doesn’t have a favorite book. She just likes ALL of them.
Do you like my hat? No I do not like that hat!
My daughters love Sam’s Sandwich. It is really cute but after so many readings and taping up of the pages it does get annoying. I have memorized all the words as have the kids.
Cat in the Hat
“Fire trucks, garbage trucks, ice cream trucks, all trucks!” My sons baby books will drive you batty. I have fun reading the Amelia Bedila books to my little girl.
This would be great!!!!
Oops….forgot to put in the line from the book. It’s from Cat in the Hat…”What would you do if your mother asked you?”
click clack moo click clack moo
are you my mother . thekitten was not his mothr. thehen was not his mother.
“The blue dog is out. The red dog is in” My son LOVES the book Go, Dog. Go! I have read it over, and over, and over, and …. don’t really get the charm of it but as long as he is interested I will keep reading it.
The most annoying book ever that my child loves is “Dora at the Beach.” Awful book. We keep hiding it, and somehow he keeps finding it.
“elmo is sooooooo big” from the elmo book
i’m so tired of elmo
I think I’m going to scream if I have to read “Elmo’s Teachers” one more time. I seriously hear it in my sleep. ARHGGGG!!
Thanks for the fun giveaway!!
“…click clack Moo, click clack quack!”
THANKS!!
The book that is going to make me pull all my hair out is Cinderella. Doesnt bella know by now that she is going to get the prince. We had 4 copies of that book. We now only have one since we donated the others to the thrift store. I have even hid the book I am sorry to admit and she finds it every damn time.
Dogs don’t wear sneakers…. please make it end!!!
Are you my mother?
I am SO bored of princess books. everything princess and the stories aren’t even good!

The book we have memorized and getting tired of is Gossie. “Gossie is a gosling. A small yellow gosling who likes to wear bright red boots. Everyday.” Would love to win the Tag system.
“I love you like I love blueberry pancakes. I love you like I love strawberry milkshakes.” Every night!!
Good Night MOON and spoon and brush. I really thought by the age of 5 he would have outgrown that book by now.
Gotta love Dr. Suess book, Lord knows they have helped all of my children to read at a young age but the Green Eggs And Ham book has worn out it’s welcome. My Grandson has me read that book anywhere and anytime.” I am Sam I am Sam Sam I am That Sam-I-am! Than Sam-I-am! I do not like that Sam-I-am! Do you like green eggs and ham?”
tamben7996(at)aol(dot)com
Pick me please :)
My daughter wants to read Bad Dog Marley everynight. I have been trying to hide it but she finds it! If I hear the words “Bad Dog Marley” one more time I think I’ll scream.
this is great!
The Little Toot book. My 2 youngest kids have me read this every day at least twice a day. I try to get them to try another book and they let me read it and then that book after. Maybe this would give them more of a variety. Thanks for the chance.
one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish…thanks for the chance to win!!

Crack in the Track – thomas the train
Oh, we’re riding on a train called the Allee Allee Oh… *sigh*!
While I love reading Sandra Boynton, I’m tired of barking while reading her book, “Doggies.” “One Dog, WOOF! Two dogs. WOOF! yap yap!” Worried I’ll start drooling next.
“Sam I am”!
I am Sam. Sam I am. Do you like green eggs and ham?…..AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!
I thought I loved the Dr. Seuss books and I think I still do but the green eggs and ham is the one I hid at the back of the bookshelf. I don’t want to hear: “I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam I Am” until the New Year. Thanks for this great giveaway!
a cow says moo

“Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, will there be enough room?”
The fisher price Who lives here book. Every page has “Who lives here?” on it. Sheesh. Enough already.
I love Dr. Suess! But only for the first 100 hundred times that I read the story..lol!! Green Eggs and Ham is the absolute quickest to tire for me!
“The wind started to blow. The tree house started to spin. It spun faster and faster. Then everything was still. Absolutely still” Can you tell my oldest is into Magic Tree House books?
SOOOOOO tired of “it’s field trip time…” in the Magic School Bus books. Give it a rest Ms. Frizzle!!! Thanks for the chance, justicecw@hotmail.com

Oh any line that Sir Topham Hat says in any Thomas book~He gets on my last nerve, but I would never let my HUGE Thomas fan know;)
“I have a little reindeer, he says his name is Bob.”
goodnight mush, good night little old lady wispering hush.
as much as I love the book, I’m so ready to move on.
“…she even wears herself out.” from Olivia, by Ian Falconer. Okay – I think the book is cute. The author has a wry sense of humor, and I enjoy that, but I rue the day I picked up that book just because my daughter’s name is, (you guessed it.) I can’t even look at Jackson Pollack paintings anymore. (Okay – not that big of a loss…)
“Elmer has many colors”
Sigh..I am so ready to move on to another book!
The Tiny Critters book that is falling apart.
I don’t care if I ever see another dinosaur – ever!
While I still love the book, I am getting tired of reading “House Mouse Party”. Yes…hip hip horray…there’s a house mouse party today…
Brown Bear, Brown Bear would you please see something else!!!! Thank you for letting me vent. It was a cute book at one time.
I don’t have a specific line, but the Junie B books drive me crazy & my daughter loves them. When one grew out of them, the other grew into them. It has been YEARS of her terrible language!
The day that I never have to read “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” can’t come soon enough! That mouse annoys me and the book isn’t even fun anymore! (At least If You Give a Pig a Pancake is a little variety!)
Thanks for the giveaway!

“Because!” says Ruby, from Max’s Christmas. Over and over and over again. Ruby is very bossy and she better hope she doesn’t come across me after a long day. :)

I know the cat in the hat by heart.
My son’s favorite book is called “No David”. It’s about a boy that is always in trouble and his Mom always says “No David, stop that this instant!”. So my son always says “No David” when I tell him to stop doing something that he shouldn’t be doing. It’s driving me insane!!
“No David” I am so tired of that I find myself calling my boys David.
From ” Hey pancakes!” : I’m flap Jack in the hotcake seat. Check out the stack that I’m going to eat!
I will not eat them in a house, I will not eat them with a mouse.

It’s funny I used to read this same book to my youngest son (over and over and over) but did I learn my lesson? Heck No! I am now reading the same book (yes the exact same book I still had it) to my grandson and he loves it too! At first it was nostalgic but now? I.Want.To.Pull.Out.My.Freaking.Hair.

Ok, we have honestly taken to hiding my daughter’s ABC book, because she wants us to read it all the time and she’s three. Of the books with actual worded books, I think it’s “But when reaching into his hat as was his habit, Louis produced a bunny rabbit” from Do You Have a Hat?
I showed this to my husband at the store today… the book my daughter wants to read constantly is a skippy jon jones book..

AAARRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Books on dinosaurs. Every single book my grandson brings home from the library has dinosaurs in it. Thank you!
My son loves “alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day” at the moment. It’s cute. But yes, Im tired of it
It’s more of a song, but my daughter loves the Clifford books and sings “I love Clifford the Big Red Dog” all the time. It gets stuck in my head and it drives me crazy!
LOL I was going to say “Goodnight to the old lady, whispering “Hush”" but that’s been taken so I’ll tell you another. My kids have a book called “Hug.” It only has three different words-hug, bobo, and mommy. Theoretically, any kids should be able to memorize it. However, my 3 you wants me to read it over and over again. I try to just say hug over and over again, but if I say it in the wrong spot, she corrects me.
reg8w at aol dot com
That would have to be Green Eggs and Ham. I have read that book soooo many times, I have it memorized. I even have it run through my head all day at times. It was funny at first, but not anymore.
Green Eggs and Ham here too! “I do like green eggs and ham” I do like them Sam I am!” It started out being pretty hilarious. But about 5000 times later… well ya know!
If I have to read the stupid ‘Learn to read’ Cars book one more time I’m going to scream…And MCQueen told Mater why he wanted to win…blah blah blah.
“This farm is a mess”. It’s from a book my kids had when they were younger that I now read to the grandkids. Why didn’t I get rid of that years ago!

My kids have a book that is called colors by little scholastic. I am so tired of that book.

honestly there isn’t one. I REFUSE to read the same books over and over and over again, so they have to pick a different story each time, I never get sick of any of the books they read since its almost always different. Guess i’m lucky!
Left Foot. Right Foot. Feet. Feet. Feet. (from The Foot book by Dr. Seuss).
In our potty book, it tells you about body parts. Well, one page tells you about “your bottom, for sitting, and a little hole for making poo-poo.” The older kids love repeating it because its rude, but its not rude, its in our potty book.
I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always
