5 Fun Stocking Stuffers for Traveling Kids
It’s that time of year, and parents everywhere are scrambling to entertain kids in backseats and airports across the country. Even if you’re staying put this holiday season, there are only so many batches of cookies you can bake to keep your kids occupied on that long winter break.
Whether you’re looking for gifts or travel toys, here are a few of our favorite small, inexpensive toys this holiday season:
1. My Busy Kit
If you need a grab and go kit for restaurants, airplanes, or just a rainy day for kids 2-6, consider My Busy Kit. Each kit is customized by age, gender, and interest, and the company is offering special holiday pricing through 12/17.
2. Rubberneckers
Stuck in the car with grade school aged kids? Pick up this fun card game called Rubberneckers and let the competition begin! Who can spot a billboard with a face on it? How about a dog, an out of state license plate, or a baseball field? Can be played cooperatively too.
3. Zoob Tube
Looking for some quiet time? A 20-piece Zoob Tube play set is not only a great size for travel, but it will also keep kids of all ages happy and quiet at home or on the road. Zoob parts move, so your kids can play with their creations after building them instead of just looking at them.
4. Crossword Puzzle Books
It’s very, very difficult to find age-appropriate crossword puzzles for kids. Believe me, I’ve tried. Two of the best are The Outrageous Crossword Puzzle and Word Game Book for Kids and its sequel More Outrageous Crossword Puzzles and Word Games for Kids. My 2nd grader can do these with a little help, and my 5th grader likes them too.
5. Wikki Stix One-of-a-Kind Creatables
Wikki Stix are wax-infused, colored pieces of yarn that can be endlessly molded, shaped, stuck, and sculpted, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. They are slightly tacky to the touch and adhere to almost any smooth surface. They are clean, safe, and easy to use, but frankly they had me at “no glue”.
Both the 84-piece Activity Set and The Christmas Activity Book are nice for preschool-aged kids and the Tons of Fun set is fun for kids 6 and up.
The very nice folks at Wikki Stix have given us a Tons of Fun set to give away to one lucky reader. You know you need it. Leave a comment here by Tuesday, December 15th for a chance to win (U.S. only please). Good luck!
Books are small too. Need a good kids book recommendation? Here’s a great kids’ book review site.

I had not heard of Wikki Stix before. I have seen infomercials for a product similar to it (I think we all know what I am talking about), but I haven’t actually bought anything like them. I have been thinking about it for my preschooler, though. I think he would have a ton of fun playing and molding them.
Those look like a ton of fun. Great idea as we travel a lot with two kids.
My niece asks for wikki stix all the time. She’d love this set.
