Holy Snake!

Congratulations to Travel Savvy Mom contributor Lani Asato for submitting the weirdest sign photo, and winning our review copy of Caution: Funny Signs Ahead.

In her own words:

On a recent work trip to Bali, Indonesia, my colleagues and I took a break to check out Tanah Lot Temple.  A popular tourist spot, Tanah Lot had all the things a temple by the sea should have: a beautiful structure, lots of shops with kitschy souvenirs, cafes and picture perfect views. It’s a great place to see the sun set.

But we were on a tight schedule and it was just past sunrise.  We didn’t really have time to linger, but this sign caught my eye. We crouched into a cave across from the temple, made a small donation, and touched the snake for good luck. Must be why I won this contest! Some travel guides described the temple snake as huge but it was teeny tiny.

Now, when I’m with my kids and I feel an inappropriate exclamation coming on I just yell, “Holy snake!” and that makes everything better.

I love it. I think I might work that phrase into my vocab., better than the other words that usually come to mind. Much more kid-friendly.
And that place looks beautiful.
