The Atlantic (the magazine, not the ocean)

map_childWe here at Travel Savvy Mom are passionate about travel – we think taking our kids to distant lands is an education in itself, an opportunity to show the younglings the world all around them and learn so many great lessons.  And in the process, we parents learn quite a bit, too.  And not just how to change a full, nasty diaper in a tiny, turbulent airplane bathroom without getting any on your shirt.

You come here to check out our stuff so we know you agree.  But sometimes it’s nice to get the message out to the greater masses.

To that end, we’re so proud to see Kayt Sukel’s Travel Dispatch in the March 2010 issue of the Atlantic Monthly magazine.  The piece, entitled “Chet of Arabia,” talks about Kayt’s decision to travel on her own with Chet to places like Petra, Jordan – and why, despite the misgivings of others,  it’s always more than worth the ride.  It also features a couple of really cute pictures of Chet.

So read the piece online – or better yet, go pick up a copy of the issue on newsstands.  It should be out soon if it’s not in your favorite bookstore already.  (And, you know, you can also subscribe to the Atlantic on your Kindle).

I think it is sometimes forgotten just how informative and such a learning experience a holiday can be for children, and most times they will not even know that they are learning while they are having so much fun.

Congrats Kayt! I love all of your articles and now more of America will get to know just how cool you are!

Congratulations, Kayt! Great article. I appreciate it, especially because we are often recipients of the “they’re too young to appreciate it” argument. My husband, an historian, always finds it odd that people assume there is a magical age to be reached before exposing children to historical sites and other cultures and civilizations. Keep up the great work!
