Running Free!
Isn’t one of the most amazing things about young children is they don’t care about getting wet? They see water and they go for it. It may be a small puddle; it may be the ocean. What is it about water that kids love so much? And at what age to we become so squeamish about water?
We recently took a trip to London. Surprisingly, it was very hot. We took advantage of this unusual weather and walked through the courtyard of historic Somerset House, which stretches from the Strand down to the River Thames. My 4-year-old daughter, Georgina, squealed with delight when she saw these sprays. And she was off.
During summer months 55 fountains dance in the courtyard, and in winter the fountains turn into an ice rink. Somerset House also hosts open-air concerts and films, contemporary art and design exhibitions. If you’re looking for your ancestry, it also holds records of births, deaths and marriages.
We are participating in Delicious Baby’s Photo Friday with this post. Head on over there and check it out.

Didn’t know Somerset house held the records but it’s good to know for my visit next year. This is a good picture, scale, motion and a sense of fun.
Too cute!
What a beautiful picture! Looks like fun. Fifty-five fountains…that’s a preschooler’s dream come true!
I still haven’t outgrown the desire to get wet. I am always the only mom soaked from running in the fountains with all the kids. Must be the pisces in me.
That looks like great fun! I sure wish the US had more pedestrian plazas so running like this were possible.
What fun! My kids would love this….actually I’d love to run through the fountains, too!
I wonder too? when did water suddenly become something to avoid. I envy how little it takes to make my kid happy
What is it with kids and fountains? :D Always makes you want to join in the fun.
