Road Trip!

It’s officially the holidays.  And what does that mean to me?  ROAD TRIP!

roadtripingermanySince I was a little girl, I have always associated Thanksgiving and Christmas not only with turkey, presents and holiday cheer – but also long car rides to Grandma’s house.

Now that I’m a Mom, the tradition has continued.  When we are back in the states, we have to make the long haul from one family’s house to another.  But here in Germany, we often use the holidays to travel.  This Thanksgiving was no exception.

In many ways, road trips are some of the most family-friendly travel you can do.  You have your own car so you can haul a lot of kid-related stuff and don’t have to worry about airport security confiscating your juice boxes.  You can plan your own route and can pee without checking out whether the fasten seat belt sign is lit up.  And you can provide your own tunes.

Here’s a video of our recent trip to Neuschwanstein Castle in Southern Bavaria.   It highlights some of the differences between road tripping in Germany versus the States.

And as an added bonus, I’ve included Chet’s Official Road Trip Playlist – you know, just in case you want the full experience on your next holiday jaunt.  (Note:  unfortunately, the child screaming, “Again, AGAIN!” is limited to family).

Wow!! Great post I loved them! Last month I went from Philadelphia to Orlando (1050ish miles, I think) in 14 hours, and that was in a Grand Marquis filled with 2 weeks worth of cargo and 4 people. I’m really enjoyed.

Best Regards,

“Wobe twip!” “Wobe twip!”

Loved the video. Love the autobahn even though, yes, we were always passed as well. Upside – NO ONE sits over in that left passing lane like they do in the US. They actually know how to drive. :)
