My 3 Best Kept Travel Secrets

Have you heard of the “Best Kept Travel Secrets” meme?  Well, I’m it.  The lovely  Miss Expatria has tagged me to give away my three best travel secrets.  I must admit I was a bit perplexed when she tagged me, er, uh, two months ago.  How could I pick just three?  And do they count as secrets if I’ve already told l everyone I know they need to hurry up and go there?  But after getting over myself, I’m now ready to share.  So without further ado…

1.  Bayerischer Wald, Germany

bw2

Hike, swim and rodelbahn in summer.  Ski, tobaggan and snow shoe winter.  Enjoy traditional Bavarian hospitality year-round.  Eat well – and drink even better.   The Bayerischer Wald (Bavarian Forest) has some of the prettiest country in all of Germany – and it’s a place I keep returning to.  It manages to be a place where I discover new things every time I visit – and yet still always feel right at home.

2.  Malta

malta

I will never understand why more people don’t visit Malta.  It is one of the most incredible spots I’ve ever visited – and it has something for every kind of visitor.  Check out pre-historic temples that pre-date the Pyramids of Giza.  Enjoy outdoor adventures and gorgeous beaches.  Eat until your belly hurts.  Explore the many facets of this wondrous island.  But go.  Yes, I’m talking to you.  Go.  The sooner the better.  It won’t remain this perfect forever.

3. Corolla, North Carolina

corolla

Corolla is home to the beaches of my childhood.  Somehow, someway, unlike other parts of the Outer Banks, it has remained immune to extraneous development and dirty, fickle crowds.  I consider it a magical place – and one I wish I could return to more often to swim in the sea, dolphin watch or just walk  miles of uninterrupted white sand (photo courtesy of Corey Ann).

Now I just need to tag five other people so they can get all angsty and overthink this task, too.  Here goes:

Ben Cooper (@ben_coop) at Travel Intelligence.
Sam Daams (@samdaams) at Travellerspoint.
Darren Cronian (@travelrants) at Travel Rants.
Tamara Heber-Percy (@SmithHotels) at Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Debbie Ferm (@dkferm) at Travel Dither

Tripbase will compile the posts in Free Travel Secrets E-book to be shared with the entire online travel community.

Kayt, I agree — this game was tough! You’ve put together some amazing travel food for thought, though, so give yourself a break now and go lie down. :)

My best friend’s last name is Maltese, and amazingly, even she has never been to Malta…what’s it gonna take?! I feel like to need to take that “bullet” for us both.

Nice trip review!! I have been there in 2005. I have noticed that one of the most popular activities during any Corolla excursion, a journey aboard a fishing charter should be at the top of every itinerary.

Best Regards,
