Best Family Adventure Sites

When planning travel for my family, I love to browse Adventure websites. Here are some of my favorites (in no order of preference - I love them all):
1. REI Family Adventures
No, it’s not all about extreme skiing or mountain climbing! REI have pulled together some great adventure vacations for families, many in North America. Activities include hiking, walking, cave exploration, horseback riding and swimming at some fabulous world locations.
2. Wildland Adventures
Wildland Adventures comes with the National Geographic stamp of approval, and features irresistibly-named family adventures, such as “Walking with Elephants”, “Glaciers and Grizzlies” and “Of Tigers and Palaces.”
3. Discovery Experiences
This Discovery Channel site is an absolute must when looking for adventure around the USA. Search for a region and filter through “Kid Zone” and the site throws back some delights, such as a New York “Candy Camp” and “Serpent Safari” in Chicago. My personal favorite (and the most expensive) is “Zero Gravity Flight” found in many locations across the States.
4. Thompson Family Adventures
Also a favorite of National Geographic, Thomspon Family Adventures’ owners, Rich and Judi, have devoted 10 years to specializing in just family adventure travel. The site has great age recommendations and a superb “Trip Difficulty” scale. I like the more personal touch of this business - you feel you could call them and ask them anything!
5. Abercrombie and Kent
The range of travel adventures from Abercrombie & Kent is just breathtaking, as are the prices. The website is beautiful, well worth a browse. A&K is dripping in luxury and their family travel section makes you want to pack up your kids and go. The 2008 offerings included Thailand and Cambodia, Kenya, Budapest, and Argentina, to mention only a few.
Here are two adventure travel sites I have linked to in previous blogs, but definitely need to make this list:
6. Travelocity: Children and Nature
Focusing on outdoor travel and including destinations where you and you family can volunteer, this site is a great resource for traveling parents. I love the “Best Family Roadtrips” section.
7. Adventures by Disney
Who knows what our children want? Disney, of course. But instead of Mickey and Donald, it’s the Great Wall of China, the real princess castle in Germany and many fabulous child-centric vacations.
If you know of any or have a good family travel posts for our Friday (and sometimes Saturday) Finds, send them to jane@travelsavvymom.com.
