Bavarian Forest Holidays in Bayerisch-Eisenstein

Once in a great while, you come across such a fantastic and family-friendly place to stay that it merits more than just a review. You want to find the nearest mountain and scream how awesome it was to the world.
And isn’t it somewhat ironic that this particular property is right next to just such a mountain?
Bavarian Forest Holidays, run by British ex-pats Margaret and Martin, boast four houses worth of great holiday apartments that can fit families of all shapes and sizes. Located in lovely Bayerisch-Eisenstein, the apartments lay at the foot of Arber mountain, home of the German National Ski Team Training Center, and are mere feet from the Czech border and the Bayerisch Wald National Park. In winter, you can ski, tobaggan, snowshoe or snowboard. And in the warmer months, you can hike, see the sights, and just enjoy the gorgeous scenery.
Each of Margaret and Martin’s apartments are refurbished in such a way to retain their Bavarian charm but also offer the best of modern amenities. But they also offer little touches that make the stay that much better. Sure, I may travel with a three-year-old but, as an adult, it’s nice to come back to apartment and find a crystal wine glass as opposed to a cheap, plastic one. Margaret and Martin go out of their way to cater to families with kids without making you feel as though adult guests are unworthy of a little luxury.
But the best part of these apartments may be Margaret and Martin themselves. With the amount of knowledge they have about the area, you’d never know they are originally from the United Kingdom. Their door is always open for questions and suggestions of what to do. They also offer their own small shop to offer goodies like snacks, wine and beer — you know, everything you might need (but are too tired to go out and buy) after a long day on the slopes with kids.
So next time you fancy a trip to Bavaria, definitely check out Bavarian Forest Holidays. You’ll be so glad you did.
